Seoul - Co:lumn

The coffee drinker and I met up in Seoul for a trip a few weeks ago. We did the usual tourist thing, shopping thing but on the last day, we decided we would cafe hop! Turns out the area nearby had a few cafes so off we went to explore.

Our first stop, because we were hungry, was Co:lumn. It is a converted warehouse in an industrial area, if that sounds like it wouldn't be easy to find, you would be right. The entrance is pretty nondescript save for a couple of boards, only the coming and going of people hinted that there was something there.

You pay an entry fee at the door for the art gallery and that gets you a drink. This fee is mandatory if you want to eat at the restaurant/cafe. There are 2 spaces, one has the drinks bar/order counter and the other has the kitchen. Both spaces were big with high ceilings, lots of natural light and filled with art.

We went on a Saturday so it was pretty crowded but some skilful loitering scored us a table. We ordered our drinks and food (both self service, hence the buzzer) and waited, picking up the food from the kitchen when it was ready.

I thought the tea was a bit weak, but the food was amazing and I really enjoyed the whole experience. Definitely stay to admire the artwork, take some photos in the natural light. Perfect way to spend a slow day.

Have you been to this space? What did you think?

Monami Livecolor DIY Markers

The coffee drinker and I were on a trip to Seoul recently and of course we went stationery shopping! We noticed that a lot of the pens were from a brand called Monami, which is a Korean stationery maker of office supplies, pens and other writing instruments.

Most of the pens were pretty standard, but the Live Color DIY display caught my eye. It's basically a pick and mix pen system. You pick from 3 pen holders and 4 different types of pen (highlighter, marker and felt tip and ball point) in various colours to create your own double sided pen. I took a really long time to decide but it was so cheap (starts from USD0.20 for the pen holder and USD0.50 for the screw on pens) , I should've just bought it all.

In the end, I chose highlighters for bullet journaling and the coffee drinker chose normal markers. I love that it's 2 sided because it reduces the number of pens in my kit and the colors are also pretty decent if you're into the pastel/light colors. I hope they expand it to include darker colors and more pen holder designs.

P.S We've updated our Etsy store with new items!

HOW TO: Washi Tape Bow Paper Clip

Another easy way to use up your washi tape stash! [or an excuse to go buy more!]

This week I'll show you how to make this super adorable bow clip. You can use your favorite washi tapes to match your layouts!

Here is how its done!

Steps

1. You will need paperclips, two types of washi tape [one thick one thin] and scissors.

2. Fold both ends of the thick washi tape towards the middle evenly.

3. You will end up with a M shape [or W]

4. Cut round corners towards the middle but don't cut it in half.

5.Use the thinner tape [i switched out the printed tape so you can see more clearly] to hold both the bow and paperclip in place. Enclose it in tape several times to secure it.

6. Completed!

Any questions? Just let me know!

p.s The journal layout above features out Sakura TN sticker insert. Have you checked it out? Shop on our Etsy store!

May 2017 Subscription Box: Coffee Therapy

Java. Joe. Elixir. Life Blood. Morning Brew.
If any of these names sound familiar,  then you must be well aware of one of the most loved beverages in the world.
Coffee.
Some people drink it to keep themselves awake. Others drink it so they can function daily.
And there are those that drink it because...well they just love it.
Whatever the case, it is a moment during the busy day that most coffee drinkers look forward to.

We call it coffee therapy.

Our May box requires very little explanation. You either love coffee or you don't and we obviously do!

This box includes a sticker set (yellow backed sticker is clear), rose gold bulldog clip, a roll of washi tape, a cute takeaway coffee cup charm and a coffee specific insert!

Camera Leather Goods/Cafe - Tokyo, Japan

On a recent trip to Tokyo, The Coffee Drinker and I decided to check out Kuramae.

Our first stop was a lovely little leather goods/cafe called Camera

It was a quiet weekday morning when we went and we ordered and paid at the counter before taking our seats.
Since the cheese toast was prominently advertised at the front of the store, we ordered that, ginger ales as well as 2 spam musubis that were on display on the counter. We skipped tea/coffees because we were planning to have those later at a different spot.

The tables were a bit small but it enjoyable to sit in the cafe, especially on a cold day, watch the cafe staff do their thing and admire the amazing leather goods.

Food wise, the cheese toast was great but I can't recommend the spam musubi enough, I wish I had ordered a second serving!

Stay tuned for more on Kuramae.
