Today, we will be reviewing the new masking sheets sets from AMIFA.

Each set contains 8 sheets of masking tape texture sticker sheets (2 sheets of 4 designs) and they measure 150mm x 100mm.
There are 2 types available.

First type

2nd type
The sheets are designed for "Free cut" aka you can cut them any way you want before peeling off the backing paper and sticking them somewhere.

If you prefer to not cut by hand, you can also use a paper punch

Or an electronic cutter for an even more precise cut (settings : masking tape)

The possibilities are endless!
What would you do with these?

Review: Okazaki Plate for masking tape

Here at TN5C, we have both been traveling quite a bit~ Its always exciting to do journaling on holiday...but not easy to bring all the supplies we want to use. So when I chanced upon this, I decided it was worth a try!

Plate for Masking Tape by Okazaki

Each package contains

  • one black front cover
  • 3 plates in white
  • one gold ring to hold them together

The plates are made of ABS resin and are very sturdy/tough.
They measure 85mm by 35mm each.

Each plate can hold up to 4 different rolls of masking tape [15mm width]

After you have added the masking tape, the front plate looks extremely cute too!

But it is not just for looks, the black front plate has jagged edges on both sides to make tearing the masking tape a total breeze. Being left handed, I totally appreciated the fact I could tear from either side.

And thanks to its compact size, it fits in the smallest of pencil cases; making it very easy to bring the masking tape you want on a trip without having to over carry!

What do you think? Will you try this out?

Review : DAISO Portable Masking Tape Holder

Here at TN5C, we are always looking for new ways to store masking tape. So when I spotted this at Daiso, I decided to buy it and see how it fared!

DAISO Portable Masking Tape Holder

This is made in conjunction with the students from Kyoto University of the Arts who designed it.

First impression, it seems to be a very simple and pleasant looking design made out of PVC clear vinyl of medium thickness.

There is a piece of vinyl in the middle which you can detach using the press button to "thread" the masking tape through.

It can hold up to 4 standard sized masking tape rolls.
There is also a ball chain at one end for you to hang it off your pencil case or pouch or bag; making it very suitable for travel!

The clear vinyl makes it easy to see what the tapes are and protects the rolls from getting dirty. Needless to say, it is also very light thanks to the material used.

What do you think?
Have you tried this before?

Review: MIDORI Quick Tape Cutter (Masking Tape Dispenser)

A while back, we reviewed the NICHIBAN Masking Tape Dispenser and today we review another! This time made by Japanese stationery brand Midori. It is a dispenser that can quickly feed the tape and cut the cut end cleanly with a light force.
Features:
It can cut masking tape neatly with the same length.
It is a convenient item that solves the problem of finding the cut end of the tape.
Keeps the tape clean.
Makes it easy to use for purposes like wrapping.

To use it, simply pull the slider and 2cm of tape will be sent out. There is a cutter blade on the upper side of the tape outlet, and you can cut the tape cleanly with a light force by pulling the tape upward.

It is also possible to pull the tape and pull it out to any length before cutting with aforementioned cutter.
Due to size, it is only for masking tape width 12 ~ 15mm.
Masking tape with an inner diameter of less than 25 mm and an outer diameter of more than 54 mm cannot be used.

With a built-in magnet, it can be fastened to metal surfaces so you do not need to worry about storage space.
Personally I have found this extremely useful and have purchased another for use in the kitchen as well.
It is a lot more compact that the Nichiban version so if you were trying to choose between the two, I would recommend this. ^^

Review: Kamio Piritte Masking Tape

Tape, there's no such thing as too much tape!

There's so much choice when it comes to tape, what makes Kamio's Piritte line of tape different?

The piritte masking tape is described as 'cellophane-like'.

It's clear and matte, which is something you don't see very often.

Each roll of tape is 20mm wide and 4m long. That''s wider than a regular roll but shorter than say, MT tape.

I picked up 2 designs to try out.

The top one is 'otona no zukan' (adult illustration) stationery edition, the bottom one is 'frames story' cafe edition.

Both designs are really pretty, and very usable, and as you can see, does not reflect light which makes it easier to photograph.

The cellophane-like texture is unlike any other tape I've tried before.

I did find it that it warps a bit when you use it, and it's prone to getting caught on other parts of the tape, the longer you unwind it.

However, like washi tape, it comes off of paper easily so it is easily adjustable.

The designs are very usable, I used the cafe ones in this brown layout.

and I cut up the stationery designs for use in my diary, it looks quite seamless here, like I drew the designs myself.

I really like this series, other than the minor annoyances such as the warp, which can be helped by unwinding the tape slowly.

Other designs include sea creatures, musical instructions, even characters such as moomin and peanuts, something to appeal to most people.

Mostly importantly, it photographs nicely, which when taking pictures of your daily journal, is an important trait to have.

What do you think? Would you purchase this tape?

REVIEW : DAISO X MT Point Seal

Newly spotted in DAISO 100yen stores : MT Point Seal Series

And these aren't just masking tape texture, they are actually made by MT of MT masking tape fame!

Curious to see how they stack up, I bought two sets to try.

Each set contains 2 identical sheets each having 3 colors in 4 different sizes. (20mm, 12mm, 8mm and 5mm in diameter)
As with other items made by MT, these are also made in Japan.

Each sticker is reposition-able just like the tape put out by MT; ie. remove very easily without tearing. And like the MT tape, they are very sticky yet leave behind no reside when removed. It is clear that they are much nicer in quality than many of the generic masking tape stickers put out by DAISO.

I tried searching for more news about them online but was only able to find this small piece of news on their official facebook account regarding the sale of these point seals sold at an event in a store in KYOTO. These were sold in sets of 3 sheets for 165yen (in contrast to the set of 2 sheets for 110yen at DAISO)

This is definitely another item to look out for in DAISO!

REVIEW : DAISO Vertical Masking Tape Holder

DAISO has introduced a new way to store our beloved Masking Tapes!

Introducing the Vertical Masking Tape holder :

It comes in 2 sizes.

Compatible with tape up to 18mm [0.7inches] OR with wider tape up to 30mm [1.18inches]

To "load" the tape, simply open up the entire box and insert accordingly. Left handers like myself can rejoice as their are blades on both sides, making it possible for left or right handed cutting. Each holds up to 3 rolls of tape. Or you can fit more if they are narrower. I was able to fit 2 narrow rolls into one space for the wide tape.

To cut, you just have to open the little slot and tear it off at the edge of the blades. So easy!

The holders are perfect for travel as they are a pleasing simple clear design reminiscent of MUJI. You can also store them more easily by lining them up vertically for a clean look. The slim design also means you can slot them into narrow spaces.

Have you tried them out? What did you think?

Review: Daiso Washi Tape Cutter

There are many types of washi tape cutters in the market, one of my favourites is the Kokuya washi tape cutter and Daiso has released a version that looks really similar to it.

You get 2 cutters in the packaging which is such a good deal.
However one of the cutters turned out to be faulty, but I had another one, so it worked out.

Left: Kokuyo Right: Daiso

The Daiso cutter is slightly bigger and more boxy than the Kokuyo cutter.

The clip mechanism is quite different too.
Kokuyo's has 2 parts so it can adjust to the thickness of the washi tape roll, and it also has a series of grooves for better grip.
Daiso's is more simple, it is just a plain clip with a small lip so the roll of tape doesn't fall off, in theory anyway.

Kokuyo's has 1 set of fine metal teeth for tape cutting whilst Daiso's has 2 sets of plastic teeth, 1 fine, 1 coarse.

The fine teeth on both are quite comparable when it comes to the cut tape edges however I found the metal one on the Kokuyo easier to use.

I do like the coarse teeth on the Daiso tape cutter too, it gave the cut tape edge a more unfinished look which would look great in layouts.

As you can see, Kokuyo's washi tape cutter is rounder, smoother and more ergonomic.
It also has grip, so once you position the cutter, tearing the tape is super simple.
This tape cutter also comes in 2 sizes to fit different widths of washi tape.

Daiso's tape cutter is more basic and simple, it's longer which would mean it would fit most washi tapes without the need to own more than one. The disadvantage of the shape however, is that you would need to hold on to the cutter to get a good tear on the tape.

Both tape cutters are great however the Kokuyo tape cutter can cost 2-3 times more than Daiso's. The Kokuyo cutter also comes in more designs and colours.

Kokuyo is more ergonomic so if you're someone who tears a lot of tape, I would recommend the Kokuyo tape cutter.

However, if you only use the cutter occasionally, the Daiso would suffice, it is easy to use, produces nice cut edges and you get 2 pieces!

Which one are you planning to buy? We'd love to know!
