DAISO fine water-based pens

Japanese discount chain store DAISO has been doing really well in the pen game of late. After their limited run of pastel markers a while ago, they have brought in a new series of water based markers. It is available in two sets. Sweet and Pastel. Each set has five pens in it and is an absolute bargain at DAISO prices [differs from country to country]. They swatch very well, with the sweet range showing up more clearly than the pastel range [as expected]. They come in a 0.5mm tip which makes it wide enough to color or draw yet fine enough to write all at the same time.

Have you tried them out? What did you think of them?

DAISO Pentel Sign Pens

Recently, I stumbled upon sign pens inside DAISO. They were also made by Pentel and i wondered if they were exactly the same as the ones we adore here at TN5C.

Needless to say, a purchase was made and here it is!

They are made in JAPAN and made by PENTEL just like the original so is there any difference?

As far as i can tell, the pens look almost identical, except for the words on them. The one from DAISO are printed on whereas the full priced ones have words engraved on them. As you can see in the pictures above, they also write pretty much the same with the identical ink color.

So overall, I find the pens pretty much exactly the same. If you find them in DAISO, do grab them as they are about 25% cheaper than buying the ones from the stationery stores!

DAISO is always a good place to find some good stationery buys. Have you gotten any recently?

5 Stationery Storage Ideas

Journaling, keeping a diary, writing in a notebook, that all requires a trove of pens, stickers.

1. Washi Tape Container

I used to keep all my washi tape in a shallow drawer but it was difficult to keep the rolls in a straight line. They would roll around and require reorganisation every few months as well.

These containers however, are perfect.

They fit both regular and smaller rolls of washi tape. Wider tape might fit but will need to be rotated. 1 box fits around 45 rolls of tape and is easy to stack. Plus the box is clear which makes it really easy to find what you need without creating a big mess.

2. Fusen and other card sized stickers/labels

Fusen/labels tend to come in card sized packaging which makes it portable and great for your on the go kit, but what happens when they accumulate?

I discovered this hack on instagram recently, and the idea is to store all of the card sized fusen into a trading card sleeve/pockets.

This won't work with a business card holder, trading card pockets are wider and it works for card sized fusen packaging because of the thickness. Also, compared to business card holders which are landscape oriented, trading card pockets are portrait, which means they won't drop out easily, are easier to access and look great!

You can buy specialty trading card folders/pockets. Daiso also sells it's own A5 folder version, which I've featured here.

3. Sticker Folder

Hands up if you have too many sheets of stickers! The best way to store them is in sticker folders. In fact, we carry a few designs on our Etsy store.

Here and here

4. Pens

The Ikea Raskog trolley is a popular choice for crafters because it's inexpensive, easy to assemble, comes in a number of cute colours and matches most rooms. I use the top of the trolley to store pens by filling it up with pen cups and pen holders from places such as Muji and H&M.

5. Everything else

And finally, if you can't find a solution for what you're trying to store. The Daiso clear shoe boxes are cheap, stackable and a fits most things. I use it to store loose items like sticker rolls, craft punches and even packaging that I want to keep. Clear always make it easier to find what you're looking for.

Hope the above is useful and if you have any suggestions, leave it in the comments below!

10 Planner/Bullet Journal Content Ideas

I’ve been bullet journaling for 18 months now and it’s been a great system. I used an MD notebook last year and whilst I got a lot of use out of it, I didn’t finish using the notebook when the year was up.

I’m using the leuchtturm1917 bullet journal notebook this year and I’ve found dot grid to be space efficient, hence I use a lot less pages than before.

In order to fully utilise it, I’ve inserted some fun, some useful content pages. I’ll share some of those ideas here:

  1. Quotes: it’s kinda of cliche but I love song lyrices and I always want to remember them. You can also write down other quotes you come across or just facts.
  2. Washi Tape/Pen Swatches: it’s always difficult to remember pen colours so having a reference is useful. Same with washi tape, with the added bonus of documenting what you have so you don’t buy something similar, hopefully.
  3. Mood Tracker: Illustrated mood trackers are such a fun idea. It’s like mindfulness colouring in a way
  4. Cleaning Schedule: I always need one of these. Other than a big overall list, I make a mini one every month.
  5. Wishlist: whatever you have a wishlist for, put it in your bujo!
  6. Favourite Cafes etc: Everytime I come across a place I would like to visit, I put it in this list.
  7. Things to do when you have time off: when life gets so busy, you need some ideas!
  8. Patterns/Ideas: ideas for bujo in a bujo. It’s bujoception. Also great for noting down cute illustration ideas from pinterest/instagram.
  9. Project list: I like to keep track of the many things I have going on at the same time. This is a good way to have that in a one page view.
  10. Recipes/meal planning: admittedly I haven’t done this but I will in the future!

Do you have other bujo ideas? Let me know in the comments!

Kokuyo pon!pon! Donut Seal Stamp + Mister Donut Collab

Do you recall the clear or white ring shaped stickers for protecting the ring holes on paper for filing inside binders? Kokuyo has come up with a dispenser design which makes them a lot easier to stick and they have also made some extremely pretty stickers as well!

There is even a mister donut limited edition collaboration!

Usage is fairly straight forward. If you are trying to stick it around a hole, then all you have to do is insert the cap underneath the paper, line up the holes and push the dispenser down to stick a seal perfectly each time.

Changing the designs around is not difficult either. Simply press the button on the side and the middle stick will fall out. Pull out the seals inside and refill it with the next stack of your choice.

You can also use them as you would a normal sticker. The mister donut collab ones are perfect for it!

FYI, The pens above are from the SaRASA X mister donut LE collab.

Have you tried these? What do you think of them?

Coharu Washi Tape Printer by Kingjim (Hiyori by Mizutama)

Kingjim makes a series of label printers that are geared towards more casual, girl, colorful users. Some of the printers are able to print on special ribbon and then there's the Hiyori, which was created with one of my favourite illustrators, Mizutama.

What is it?

It's a label printer with a twist! It not only prints labels, it can also print on special washi tape and there are hole punches in a variety of shapes to create diary/planner stickers.

The entire Mizutama collection consists of the printer, label paper, hole punches and little folders with pockets to hold the labels/stickers.  Other items from the Coharu line can be used with this printer.

One thing to note is that whilst the buttons are labelled in english, the system language is in Japanese. Nothing a little playing around won't solve, it's easy to get a hang once you spend a bit of time trying the various settings. Besides the usual settings like font, style, there are also Mizutama exclusive icons and preset greetings like happy birthday.

The hole punch is an optional accessory, it's a handle and the punches are sold separately and interchangeable. It's easy to swap it out and easy to align the label to get the right punch. Great for making smaller stickers for monthly layouts or similar.

The mini folder is a newer addition to the collection and is very useful. There are  3 pockets and will hold quite a variety of labels/stickers, perfect for travel.

The Hiyori is one of most used tools, I do recommend it.
