Store Update! Sticker Release Paper!

A while ago, we released A5 sticker release paper on our Etsy store. We’re now excited to announce that it is now available in A4 size!

Sticker release paper is a smooth coated paper that allows for the temporary placement of stickers, much like the sticker books of your childhood. So yes, the paper is reusable as much as you want.

We stock double sided paper, which is perfect for a variety of uses which I’ll go into more detail below.

Our A5 sticker release paper can be used in our clear 6 ring binder (pictured above), a 2 ring file, slide it into a folder, slot it into an A5 pocket folder or with some cutting, our sticker folder (currently out of stock, will be back soon!)

You can also create your own mini booklet, or go up a size to A4:

The A4 sticker release paper is very versatile.

Besides some of the same suggestions as the A5 paper such as inserting it into a folder, or using a 2 hole folder, you can also create your own travelers notebook insert! (or we can do it for you, subject to availability, please request a custom item if you do not see it on our store)

We’ve also found that it fits perfectly in our A4 slim compact foldable folder. The folder has 5 pockets and the pages are easily slid in or out for use and the best part is that it is the same size as a Travelers notebook.

Once again, our sticker release paper comes in A5 or A4 size, it is double sided and comes in a set of 10 sheets (20 usable pages!)

Purchase here: Sticker Release Paper , A4 slim folder, A5 6 ring clear binder

Also, our printer friendly A4 Washi sticker paper is back in stock!

A5 Notebook Recommendations For Bullet Journalling

It’s that time of year! Diary/Journal buying, my favourite time of the year to be honest.
If you are not sure what a Bullet Journal is, please see this page.

1. Leuchtturm 1917 Bullet Journal

I’ve been using the Leuchtturm official bullet journal notebook as my bullet journal this year. You don’t really have to buy the official version, any of the other Leuchtturm dot grid notebooks would work, but if you’re a beginner, the official version makes navigating the system easy.

I like the Leuchtturm because of its hardcover, it also has a pocket in the back, and an elastic to hold the notebook closed when it’s in your bag. You can also pair it with a matching pen loop, which I’m a big fan of.

2. Midori MD Paper

I started using a Bullet Journal in 2017 and that year I used a Midori A5 Blank page notebook. At the time, Midori did not do a dot grid notebook but they have recently released a limited edition range that includes dotgrid. If you can still find it, I would recommend dotgrid for Bujo.

MD paper is legendary, it’s really nice to write on and supports a wide range of writing media. My only complaint is that you will have to buy a cover because they are cream coloured soft covered notebooks. The good news is that Midori do sell a range of covers, or any standard A5 cover (Hobonichi cousin if you want extra pockets) will fit as well.

3. Filofax Clipbook

The Clipbook is one of my newer notebooks. I’m not using it for Bujo but I think it would be perfect for someone who prefers to add/remove pages.

You can also add in dividers/pockets and loose dot grid pages are easily available so that makes this system pretty flexible. It also comes in a variety of colours/materials.

However, my favourite thing about the clipbook is that opens flat comfortably, making it easy to write on all pages.

4. Muji Easy-Open Notebook with Recycled Paper

Muji carries good quality notebooks for budget conscious bullet journal users. The paper may be recycled, but it’s very smooth and great for writing.

This is just one in a range of A5 dot grid notebooks so there are many choices, but I recommend this one because of the PP cover.

5. Transparent Clear Vinyl 6 Ring Binder

The 6 ring format of this binder is similar to the Filofax Clipbook.

Plastic means your notes will be protected and transparent means you can customise it. Perfect for those who like to stamp their own personality on their notebooks.

Honorable Mention

Travelers Notebook

The TN, which is more of a slim A5 size is also one of the more popular options for Bullet Journalling. You can assign different notebooks to different things, making it quite a flexible system.

MACO - The Pen sized masking tape holder

Japanese stationery brand Kanmeido has launched a brand new product: A pen sized masking tape holder!

They come in 4 different colors : Yellow, Pink , White and Navy.

Each set comes with the following : A holder, 5 refill cases and 1 winder.

How it works.

Using the winder, you are able to wind up to 1m of tape you want to use onto the refill.

Once the refill is ready, you can slot it into the holder.

Up to 4 different masking tapes can be added at each time.

There are refills available for sale separately as well!

I think this is a great system and extremely handy to bring masking tape on the go. A wonderful addition to my traveling stationery kit.

What do you think?

Letter Pen 'Cocoiro'

There are a lot of letter/sign/brush pens out there. The Cocoiro by Zig has been around for a number of years but I feel that it is maybe a bit underrated. If you haven’t heard of this pen, I hope you’ll find this post useful.

The Cocoiro is a letter pen system which comes in 2 parts, a writing component and an interchangeable pen body. The pen body (pen sleeve and cap) is available in 16 different colours, limited edition designs are also available periodically. The writing component (ink and brush/pen) comes in extra fine brush, available in 12 colours, Rollerball, 0.3mm black and Brush, black only.

You can purchase a set, which consists of pen body plus extra fine in black ink, everything you need to get started OR you can buy the pen body and writing component separately. It’s a pretty flexible system, swap colours and pen bodies as and when you please.

I’ve only purchased 3 colours from the ink range; black, sepia and dark green but my favourite is the sepia, I just feel that it’s really special and unique and it’s one of the things that drew me to these pens.

The extra fine brush tip is the most common refill. It is not as soft or long as say, the tombow brush pen which makes is perfect for lettering and drawing. It might take a while to get used to using but it’s a great pen to work with. I’ve not tried the ballpen and I’m not as fond of the brush refill as much as other brush pens so I cannot recommend them.

Have you used this before? What do you think about it?

Masking Tape Hacks : Pens/Markers to use with it

One of the most obvious uses for masking tape is use them as labels. However, trying to find a pen or marker suitable for writing on them can be difficult at times. Not to worry, here at TN5C we have done the research so you don't have to. These are the pens we reccomend!

  1. Pilot Multiball pen (Medium tip) - Can be used as a pen for writing or drawing yet you are still able to use it surfaces like glass, cloth and plastic! If you are intending to do a lot of writing on your labels, this is the one to get.

  2. Pilot Multiball pen (Fine tip) - Same as above just a finer tip.

  3. Zebra Marker Superfine / マッキーケア超極細 : A favorite of mine and comes in several other colors as well. The 0.3mm tip is very good for journaling as well eg. writing on film based sticky notes.

  4. Mitsubishi UNI Powerful Name Marker : Also Dual ended. One end is 0.4mm and the other is 0.9mm. Long lasting and waterproof, this is perfect for usage on most things and as expected, it shows up the best on the masking tape.

Have you tried any of these? Or are there others you recommend?

King Jim 'KITTA'

Kingjim's Kitta range is the answer to the question; "how do I carry multiple washi tapes with me when I'm out/travelling?" For as long as washi tape has been around, people have been trying to find a way to bring their washi tape collection into their kits.

The Kitta range combines the texture of washi tape in a convenient card sized package. Each seal set is credit card sized, which makes it easy to slip into your notebook pocket or pencil case.

There are 3 lines, the Kitta Basic, which includes 4 designs of regular width washi tape strips, Kitta Slim, same as before but slimmer and has 8 designs and the Kitta Seal, which consists of marking seals, picture corners and index markers.

The Basic and Slim are pre cut washi strips, each piece has it's own backing paper. The difference between these and fusen is that fusen is only adhesive on one end whilst the Kitta tape is fully adhesive. A regular ballpoint pen can be used to write on the strips but a marker is recommended.

The Seal range has a more smooth sticker like texture. Most are semi-opaque which means you can write on the sticker or write on the paper before sticking the seal on your writing. With these, I would recommend using a marker and not a ballpoint pen. The picture corners are strong enough to hold down an instax card but are still reposition-able.

The best part of the kitta seal however, is that if you don't want to carry the entire pack with you, you can tear off individual sheets of the Basic/Slim tape designs and an entire sheet off the Seal (perforated cut included!)

I like how each set has a theme which shows in not just the cover but the designs as well. The colours are also pretty and very usable. Kingjim appears to be releasing new designs all the time, so time to collect them all?

Lastly, if you buy too many of these, which is very possible, I recommend a look at my stationery storage ideas blogpost for how I store them.

DAISO fine water-based pens

Japanese discount chain store DAISO has been doing really well in the pen game of late. After their limited run of pastel markers a while ago, they have brought in a new series of water based markers. It is available in two sets. Sweet and Pastel. Each set has five pens in it and is an absolute bargain at DAISO prices [differs from country to country]. They swatch very well, with the sweet range showing up more clearly than the pastel range [as expected]. They come in a 0.5mm tip which makes it wide enough to color or draw yet fine enough to write all at the same time.

Have you tried them out? What did you think of them?

DAISO Pentel Sign Pens

Recently, I stumbled upon sign pens inside DAISO. They were also made by Pentel and i wondered if they were exactly the same as the ones we adore here at TN5C.

Needless to say, a purchase was made and here it is!

They are made in JAPAN and made by PENTEL just like the original so is there any difference?

As far as i can tell, the pens look almost identical, except for the words on them. The one from DAISO are printed on whereas the full priced ones have words engraved on them. As you can see in the pictures above, they also write pretty much the same with the identical ink color.

So overall, I find the pens pretty much exactly the same. If you find them in DAISO, do grab them as they are about 25% cheaper than buying the ones from the stationery stores!

DAISO is always a good place to find some good stationery buys. Have you gotten any recently?
